Now Batting: MLBN's 'TV Everywhere' Presentation of 2013 WBC

Time Warner Cable, Bright House, DirecTV Subs Can Stream Tourney on Multiple Devices 3/01/2013 5:52 PM Eastern

Baseball’s global showcase is available on "TV Everywhere" platforms.

MLB Network, the English-language rights-holder to all 39 games of the 2013 World Baseball Classic that commenced on March 1, is making the tournament available on an authenticated basis online and on Apple devices. Bright House Networks, DirecTV and Time Warner Cable subscribers who receive MLB Network as part of their TV subscription package will have access to all 39 games on computers at WorldBaseballClassic.com/Watch by logging in with their TV service provider information.

After authenticating online and creating an MLB user profile, users can watch the tournament on Apple’s iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices, via the WBCBaseball app, available on the Apple App Store.

Live streaming started with the tournament opener between Australia and Chinese Taipei on Friday, March 1 at 11:30 p.m. (ET). Game action through the event's conclusion on March 19 aside, authenticated users are able to view highlights and archived WBC games from earlier in the tournament.

Now counting some 70 million subscribers, MLBN, which televised 16 games of the 2009 World Baseball Classic, just after the service’s launch, also holds the English-language rights in the U.S. to the 2017 event.

ESPN Deportes, the Spanish-language rights-holder for the 2013 and 2017 WBCs, will provide live telecasts of all 39 contests this month. The worldwide leader is also the radio rights-holder, with the games available on both ESPN Deportes Radio and ESPN Radio.

ESPN held the exclusive English-language rights for the tournament's first installment in 2006 and joint rights with MLBN in 2009.

Japan enters the 2013 World Baseball Classic as the two-time defending champion. This year's expanded tourney is highlighted by the semifinals and final from March 17-19 at San Francisco’s AT&T Park and hosted by the San Francisco Giants. Second-round games will be hosted by the Miami Marlins from March 12-16 at Marlins Park and the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

First-round competition from Pool D, which includes the U.S. team, is scheduled from March 7-10 at Chase Field in Phoenix and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale. There are also international venues for the opening round: the Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome, Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan and Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
