HBO Go Lands on Apple TV Set-Tops via AirPlayProgrammer Says TV Everywhere Apps for iOS Devices Now Works With Apple's AirPlay Feature 2/12/2013 11:24 AM Eastern
HBO’s TV Everywhere apps for iOS devices now support Apple’s AirPlay feature, which will let users wirelessly stream on-demand content to Apple TV boxes over Wi-Fi.
Both HBO Go and Cinemax’s MAX GO App were updated with the same capabilities. The updated apps are now available in Apple’s iTunes App Store, according to HBO.
Eric Kessler, president and chief operating officer of HBO, announced the new capabilities Tuesday at AllThingsD’s “D: Dive Into Media” conference.
“Our long-term goal for [HBO] Go is to be on all devices and all platforms,” Kessler said, adding that eventually HBO plans to provide access to TV Everywhere content directly through Apple TV.
HBO Go currently has about 4.4 million registered users. The service also is available for select Android smartphones, Kindle Fire tablets, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Samsung Smart TVs and Roku set-tops.
The premium programmer’s TV Everywhere services offer customers who subscribe to HBO and/or Cinemax unlimited access to the corresponding networks' streaming services -- for no additional charge -- on any computer in the U.S. with a high-speed Internet connection. HBO has agreements with pay TV operators for HBO Go representing more than 98% of U.S. multichannel video households.
