Seagate Offers DVR Disk-Drive Add-On

5/03/2004 8:13 AM Eastern

New Orleans -- Computer-storage manufacturer Seagate Technology is debuting a hard-disk-drive add-on device at the National Show here that will allow operators to provide more storage beyond basic digital-video-recorder set-tops.

Seagate is the hard-drive supplier for some of the DVR boxes deployed by EchoStar Communications Corp., and it is looking at providing cable operators with 160-gigabyte to 200-GB add-on devices for DVRs.

Once MSOs deploy DVRs that can recognize external devices, it could open the market to add-on devices, which might be needed for HDTV.
