Trying to show the vitality of its flagship conference, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers announced that 250 technical abstracts have been submitted for sessions at the group's Cable-Tec Expo 2012 this fall.

This year's total beat the previous record 231 entries submitted in 2010. The papers fall into six categories: business services; capacity management; network and technical operations; energy management; engineering; and wireless/Wi-Fi. The SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2012 program committee will announce selected abstracts by June 29.

"Cable continues to seek new ways to maximize the benefits of new technologies and increase the industry's competitive edge," said Jim Ludington, Time Warner Cable executive vice president of network national operations. Ludington is chairman of the Cable-Tec Expo 2012 program committee.

Cable-Tec Expo 2012 is set to run Oct. 17-19 in Orlando, Fla., at the Orange County Convention Center, the same week as the 2012 CTAM Summit (Oct. 14-16 at the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin resort). On Oct. 16, SCTE will host a Digital Home Symposium and other pre-conference sessions on Oct. 16.

SCTE currently is considering returning Cable-Tec Expo to its traditional springtime slot, after the professional association shifted the event to the fall in 2009 to align with other industry events.
