HGTV, Motorola ‘DigiCipher’ Go West

Scripps Networks will use Motorola Broadband Communications Sector’s "DigiCipher II" video-compression encoder technology and services to launch a West Coast feed of Home & Garden Television.

HGTV’s West Coast feed will join fellow Scripps Networks services Food Network, Do It Yourself and Fine Living in being transmitted from the programmer’s operations center in Knoxville, Tenn., using Motorola’s DigiCipher II encoder, DigiCipher II Access Control System and DigiCipher Event Manager.

"The ability to simply add another digital channel to our existing multiplex while maintaining video quality makes adding the West Coast version of HGTV an easy technical decision," Scripps Networks vice president of engineering Mike Donovan said in a prepared statement.
