Los Angeles— Two technology and engineering award categories have been added to the Emmy lineup, marking the first time the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will honor the use of advanced media technology in advertising.

One award will honor innovation in personal media display and presentation technology; and the second will be given for innovation in nontraditional platforms, including broadband, the Internet, video-on-demand and computer-based media players that are not personal media devices.

Those two Emmy awards, as well as the rest of the tech and engineering Emmys, will be presented at the International Consumer Electronics Show on Jan. 8, 2007 in Las Vegas. Last year, the statuettes were presented in Princeton, N.J.

Peter Price, CEO of the Academy, said CES is the “launch pad” of the entertainment industry, so it’s a fitting locale for the award presentation.

The awards will honor content delivered between May 1, 2005 and April 30, 2006. A blue-ribbon panel of industry professionals reviews and recommends technologies and potential awardees in the technology categories.

Content that will be considered must be original to its platform, not repurposed.
