Court Sides with TiVo in Patent Flap

8/17/2005 5:22 AM Eastern

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Wednesday upheld a lower court's decision that TiVo Inc.’s television-recording technology does not infringe on a patent held by Pause Technology LLC, AP reported.

Pause's patent covers rewinding, fast-forwarding and pausing TV programs, TiVo told AP.

The court affirmed a February 2004 ruling by a Massachusetts district judge, according to AP. TiVo said it plans to seek a court order requiring Pause to compensate its litigation costs.

“TiVo will continue to vigorously defend itself against unfounded patent-infringement claims that are brought against it," vice president and general counsel Matthew Zinn told AP.
