CableLabs, EuroCableLabs Eye DOCSIS 3.0 Device Tally

12/07/2006 9:12 AM Eastern

Cable Television Laboratories and EuroCableLabs issued a request for information seeking product availability for devices that would comply with Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 3.0.

The two research-and-development organizations said the RFI specifically seeks information on DOCSIS 3.0 modems, cable-modem-termination systems and PacketCable embedded multimedia-terminal adapters (E-MTAs), as well as information on what products are being developed to meet the requirements of the DOCSIS 3.0 specifications.

“The issuance of this RFI reflects the importance that the cable-television-system operators throughout the world place in getting accurate product-development and availability information on DOCSIS 3.0 devices from the equipment-vendor community in order for the operators to establish their deployment plans for the next generation of IP-based [Internet protocol] multimedia (voice, data and video) businesses,” CableLabs and EuroCableLabs said in a prepared statement.

“It also reflects the commitment by cable operators to continue to build upon the highly successful DOCSIS platform with full interoperability in mind,” the two groups added.
