Brightcove Targets 'TV Everywhere'

1/25/2010 2:00 AM Eastern

Brightcove is jumping into the TV Everywhere arena with a new suite of offerings, hoping to win new business from programmers that want to serve up high-value content to cable subscribers on the Web.

The Brightcove TV Everywhere Solution Pack, to be announced this week, extends the Brightcove 4 video-management platform with additional capabilities, including authentication services and tools to manage content rights and viewer entitlements.

TVE-SP, as the company is calling it for short, will integrate Ping Identity's PingFederate Internet identity security software to provide a user authentication and authorization solution based on the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0 specification.

“We look at TV Everywhere, in a sense, as just a new set of operational and technical requirements in our platform,” said Brightcove chairman and CEO Jeremy Allaire.

As part of its TVE push, Brightcove promoted Eric Elia to vice president of TV solutions; he will lead the team responsible for customizing and deploying TV Everywhere solutions. Elia previously worked at Comcast, where he led the team responsible for the development of Comcast's The Fan video site.

More than 60 TV programmers currently use the Brightcove platform, including Discovery Communications, A&E Television Networks and Showtime Networks. Competitors include Comcast's ThePlatform and ExtendMedia, both of which have worked up their own approaches for delivering TV Everywhere in recent months.
