Arris Plugs CCAP Wins

Arris Group said it has secured deals for its flagship cable access platform the E6000 Converged Edge Router – with Cable TV of East Alabama, and with Comporium, a provider that serves parts of North Carolina and South Carolina.

Among them, Comporium has begun to migrate its network, originally built on Arris’s C4 cable modem termination system (CMTS), to the E6000, a device that is starting out as a high-density CMTS, but will eventually add edge QAM capabilities and evolve into a full-fledged Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP).

Cable TV of East Alabama, meanwhile, will use the E6000 to increase bandwidth for its IP voice, video and data services by licensing capacity as needed.

According to Infonetics Research, Arris represented 37% share of revenues for combined CMTS, edge QAM, and CCAP-pointing products in the first quarter of 2014,  followed by Cisco's 32%, Casa's 21%, and Harmonic's 7%.
