USA Nets Weekly Primetime Ratings Three-Peat

Discovery's 'Shark Week' Stunt Helps Net Win Key Demos 8/13/2013 11:55 AM Eastern

USA Network and Disney Channel are sizzling from a ratings perspective as the summer ratings season winds down.

USA Network won its third straight summer primetime ratings contest, averaging 2.6 million viewers during the week of Aug. 5 to Aug. 11 to best Disney’s 2.6 million viewer take, according to Nielsen. With two weeks left in the summer seaosn, USA is pushing toward its eighth straight summer ratings title among ad-supported networks.

History and Discovery Channel finished in a third place primetime ratings tie with 2.1 million viewers, followed by TNT with 1.7 million watchers. TBS (1.7 million viewers); Fox News and A&E (tied with 1.4 million viewers); AMC (1.3 million) and ESPN (1.2 million) rounded out the top 10.

Disney Channel was the most watched network on a 24-hour basis for the fourth straight week, besting Nickelodeon. Disney is looking to win its second consecutive summer ratings crown on a total day basis.  

Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” programming stunt last week helped the network finish as the most watched cable network in primetime among adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34, said Nielsen.
