Time Warner Telecom Takes 4Q Restructuring Charge

10/28/2001 7:00 PM Eastern

Time Warner Telecom Inc. announced a restructuring of its workforce to streamline operations, which will include the elimination of about 250 positions here. The company said in a press release that the layoffs would result in a $6-million to $8-million fourth-quarter pre-tax restructuring charge.

Time Warner Telecom said it decided to centralize its Network Operations Center in order to improve processes and efficiencies. About 65 of the eliminated positions will be centralized in the company's Denver-area operations, either by relocation or through new hires.

The company will continue to employ about 100 people in the Vancouver/Portland area after the restructuring.

"As a growing company, we continually refocus resources to where they are most efficient and cost effective," Time Warner Telecom chairman Larissa Herda said in a statement. "After we performed extensive analysis, we determined that centralization of our Network Operations Center including billing, customer care network surveillance and maintenance was the best decision."
