Alterman Returns to Comedy Central

1/16/2010 2:00 AM Eastern

Comedy Central has brought back one of its own to lead its programming efforts.

The network named Kent Alterman as head of original programming and production. Alterman, who will report to Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless and be based in the network's Los Angeles office, succeeds Lauren Corrao, who left at the end of 2009.

Alterman, who led Comedy Central's New York development office before exiting in 2001, will be responsible for the development and day-to-day operations of all original programming on Comedy Central, overseeing the development teams in both Los Angeles and New York.

During his previous tenure at Comedy, he developed Strangers With Candy, The Upright Citizens Brigade and Viva Variety, among other programs.

After leaving the network he moved into feature films, where he oversaw films such as Elf, Little Children and A History of Violence as a development executive for New Line Cinema. He also directed and executive produced Semi-Pro, starring Will Ferrell.
