Summer Cable Shows Jump Off To Fast Start

TNT’s `Falling Skies,’ Nick’s ‘Sam & Cat’ Debuts Draw More Than 4 Million Viewers 6/11/2013 11:06 AM Eastern

Several cable shows drew big audiences during their season debuts last week as the summer season kicks into full gear.

A number of new and returning scripted series premieres drew more than 4 million viewers during the week of June 3 to June 9 including USA’s Burn Notice (4.3 million viewers); TNT’s Falling Skies (4.2 million) and Nickelodeon’s Sam & Cat (4.1 million), according to Nielsen.

TNT won its second straight summer weekly ratings crown with an assist from its coverage of the Indiana Pacers-Miami Heat NBA Eastern Conference finals Game 7 telecast, which drew 11.5 million viewers.  Overall TNT averaged 2.8 million viewers for the week, followed by USA Network’s 2.7 million viewers and Disney Channel’s 2.2 million watchers.

History finished fourth with 2 million viewers, followed by Fox News Network’s 1.9 million viewers. TBS (1.6 million viewers); A&E (1.6 million); NBC Sports (1.5 million viewers); HGTV (1.2 million); and Discovery (1.2 million) rounded out the top 10.

Disney Channel’s 1.7 million average total day audience was enough to beat out Nickelodeon’s 1.6 million watchers to finish first among all basic cable networks.
