Hispanic TV Summit: Comcast Saluted with Leadership Award

Jenckes Accepts Honor for MSO's Improved Commitment to Service to Hispanic Communities 10/04/2012 10:55 AM Eastern

Two years ago Comcast made a significant commitment to enhancing its service to Hispanic communities across its footprint. Those efforts have earned the nation’s largest distributor the brand new Leadership in Hispanic Television Award, which was presented at the 10th annual Broadcasting & Cable/Multichannel News Hispanic Television Summit on Oct. 3.

Marcien Jenckes, Comcast senior vice president and general manager of video services, accepted the award on behalf of the MSO during the luncheon at the Marriott Marquis in New York. A copy of Jenckes’ prepared remarks follow:

Thank you. Comcast Cable and I are proud to be receiving the 2012 Leadership in Hispanic Television award today. It’s truly a validation of our efforts to provide best-in-class offerings across all of our services to our Hispanic customers. 

I want to first of all thank Multichannel News and Broadcasting and Cable, our colleagues and industry peers, and most importantly our customers, the ones who inspire us every day to do what we do.

Multicultural audiences are very important to Comcast.  And among them, the Hispanic market is a key focus area, as the demand for Hispanic-relevant services grows not only in video, but for Internet and communications as well.

Last year, we launched Xfinity TV in Spanish, a cross-platform entertainment experience that delivers the widest array of Spanish-language choices available– on TV, On Demand and online. We recently announced the industry’s first Hispanic specific Triple Play -- tailored specifically for Hispanic customers. This year, we also launched BabyFirst Americas, the nation's leading network for children, and announced the upcoming launch of El Rey network, from renowned filmmaker and producer Robert Rodriguez.

We’re continuing to build our Hispanic offerings. Our Hispanic video team, led by Ruben Mendiola, is working hard every day to curate even more, more channels, more on-demand programming, more relevant content for Hispanic customers in both Spanish and English, which you’ll begin seeing very soon.

We see a long and promising road ahead, and this recognition is a great honor as we continue to innovate day in and day out to bring the best and most relevant Hispanic products and services into the Latino homes throughout our nation.
