Sprint Picks Up ESPN Mobile TV

Sprint will offer the ESPN Mobile TV 24-hour channel, with more than 800 live sporting events this year, to subscribers with video-enabled handsets.

The channel is the same mix of live sports and events offered through Qualcomm's FLO TV subsidiary, which is available on AT&T and Verizon Wireless as well as FLO's own devices.

For Sprint customers who have an Everything Data plan -- which starts at $69.99 per month for unlimited data plus 450 minutes of calling -- there is no additional charge to access ESPN Mobile TV. Without the plan, Sprint charges 3 cents per kilobyte for access to TV and video content; customers can also tack on an unlimited-data option for $15 per month to regular calling plans.

In March and April alone, ESPN Mobile TV coverage will feature more than 100 live events with more than 250 hours of coverage, including 23 live men's NCAA basketball games, including conference championship contests, nine NBA playoff tilts and 10 regular-season MLB matchups.

The majority of Sprint's devices are capable of displaying video, including the HTC Hero, Samsung Moment, Samsung Instinct, Palm Pre and BlackBerry Curve. Other content available through Sprint TV include news, weather, sports, children's programs and comedy, including Disney Channel and ABC.
