RNC Drives Daily Show to Record Week

9/07/2004 10:42 AM Eastern

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart posted the biggest ratings week in its history during its coverage of the Republican National Convention Aug. 31-Sept. 3.

The network said The Daily Show averaged 1.4 million viewers during its "Indecision 2004" coverage of the RNC.

Viewership for the week was up 87% versus the comparable days last year and 24% versus the year-to-date average for the series, Comedy added.

Comedy said the series won its time slot (11 p.m.-11:30 p.m.) for viewers 18-34 against all of the cable news networks every night except Thursday, the night of President George W. Bush's acceptance speech, when it came in second behind Fox News Channel.

The Daily Show averaged 1.3 million viewers during its coverage of the Democratic National Convention July 27-30.
