Networks Tout February Ratings Gains

February had barely ended before cable networks began boasting of their ratings feats for the month.

• Lifetime Television posted its fourth consecutive month of primetime-household-ratings increases during February, the network said Tuesday.

Lifetime Original MovieMore Sex & the Single Mom helped to spur the gains, earning a 2.7 household rating and drawing 3 million viewers, making it the highest-rated original movie on ad-supported cable for the month.

When compared with February 2004, Lifetime’s primetime rating of 1.5 was up 15% from 1.3 and total viewers rose 9% to 1.612 million from 1.48 million.

The network added that it finished No. 1 among all ad-supported cable networks in primetime-household rating versus the Super Bowl for the third straight year.

• Comedy Central called February its best month ever, saying that it average a 0.37 full-day rating among persons 18-49 to go with 601,000 average total viewers during the month.

As for primetime, the network averaged a 0.58 rating among viewers 18-49 and 1 million viewers.

Comedy said its increases versus February 2004 were 23% in 18-49 ratings and 27% in viewership for total-day figures, and for primetime, those numbers were 26% and 33%, respectively.

New episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart averaged 1.5 million viewers during the month of February, the network added.

• Court TV said it posted the highest-rated and most-watched February in primetime in its history.

The network said it earned a 0.9 primetime household rating for the month, up 13% versus February 2004, and an average of 913,000 viewers.

Court TV added that its average adults 18-49 primetime rating of 0.4 was up 33% compared with last February.

The network cited premiere episodes of Dominick Dunne's Power, Privilege and Justice; Psychic Detectives; Masterminds; I, Detective; The Investigators; North Mission Road; and Forensic Files, which it said averaged a 1.0 household rating and attracted an average of more than 1 million total viewers in primetime.
