NBC to Air Sci Fi Series10/27/2004 3:11 AM Eastern
NBC is scaring up a little repurposing and promotion for Sci Fi Channel on Halloween Eve.
The Peacock network’s primetime Oct. 30 will be dressed up as “Sci Fi Saturday,” a programming ploy that will give broadcast viewers a look at the cable network’s hidden-camera reality series, Scare Tactics, hosted by Stephen Baldwin, and docu-soap Ghost Hunters, which follows a group of real-life ghostbusters who investigate hauntings.
NBC will present two half-hour episodes of Scare Tactics back-to-back, beginning at 8 p.m. Those installments will precede Ghost Hunters from 9 p.m.-10 p.m.
“We're hoping to bring a broader audience to these Sci Fi hits. This is also a great example of the NBC Universal cross-network cooperation.” said Jeff Gaspin, president of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment and cross-network strategy, in a prepared statement.
Scare Tactics and Ghost Hunters, along with Proof Positive, coalesce to make up the network’s “Sci Fi Wednesday” night of original series.
After three weeks on the schedule, network officials said the programming block has helped Sci Fi to increase its delivery of adults 18-49 by 27%. Ghost Busters has averaged 1.6 million total viewers and 982,000 of the aforementioned demo groups in its 9 p.m.-10 p.m. slot, while Scare Tactics has pulled 776,000 of the 18-49 watchers and 1.2 million viewers overall in the following hour.
