Melvill to Fill Simmons’ PROMAX&BDA Space6/23/2004 7:26 AM Eastern
PROMAX&BDA is replacing a hip-hop pioneer with a space pioneer.
The marketing organization announced Tuesday that Mike Melvill -- who became the first commercial astronaut in history when he piloted SpaceShipOne more than 328,491 feet above the earth's surface Monday -- will speak Friday at the 49th Annual PROMAX&BDA Conference, opening at the New York Hilton and Towers in New York Wednesday.
Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons was originally slated to address the conference, but he had to cancel due to a schedule change.
“We're sorry that Mr. Simmons' unavoidable change in schedule prevents him from joining us Friday afternoon,” PROMAX&BDA CEO Jim Chabin said in a prepared statement.
“But we're thrilled that Mr. Melvill has agreed to share his incredible experience with us,” Chabin added. “In addition to describing his history-making trip of suborbital flight, I also believe our membership can learn a great deal from Mr. Melvill's persistence, daring and sense of adventure.”
