Fast Start 'Psychs’ USA7/14/2006 8:00 PM Eastern
New York— The hits apparently keep coming for basic cable.
USA Network got out of the gate in a hurry with Psych on July 7, as the series attracted some 6.1 million viewers and a 4.5 household rating in its 10 p.m. time slot, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
That made the show, starring James Boday as Shawn Spencer a quirky detective who bamboozles authorities into thinking he has psychic powers, the highest-rated new scripted series on basic-cable this year, according to USA.
Psych toppled TNT’s paramedic entry Saved, which captured 5.1 million viewers during its June 12 debut as a lead-out for the medium’s top performer, The Closer.
Psych also proved to be this year’s top new scripted series for adults 18 to 49 and adults 25 to 54, according to USA, which also noted that the fifth-season premiere of Monk that night was the most-watched scripted hour in basic-cable ever in the Friday 9 p.m. time slot. The Emmy-nominated Monk notched a 3.9 household rating and 5.1 million viewers on July 7.
