Cox, MTV to Get Beacons

Cox Communications Inc. will get an award bearing ESPN’s name at the Cable Television Public Affairs Association’s Beacon Awards gala March 23.

MTV: Music Television will also receive an award for good works at the event.

The CTPAA said Tuesday that Cox will receive the "ESPN Good Sports Award" for Cox Arizona’s "Everyday Heroes" initiative, which honored school administrators, teachers and students for demonstrating character and honor in outstanding achievement both on and off the field of sports play.

MTV is to receive the "Joel A. Berger Award" for the program MTV News Now: Sex, School & Scandal, which premiered on World AIDS Day in 2002. Through the stories of 18-year-old Nikko Briteramos and 20-year-old Prairie Blacksmith, the show explored the personal impact of having unprotected sex, as both are learning to cope with living with HIV.
