Indian Land, SC – Bill Airy, Chief Operating Officer of The Inspiration Networks, today announced the launch of “Halogen,” a new 24/7 multiplatform socially conscious television network devoted to empowering its viewers to make positive changes in the world around them. Launched on October 24th, Halogen is available in more than 12 million digital cable homes across the country. Rebekah “Becky” Henderson will serve as General Manager of the network, overseeing day-to-day operations.

“We are very excited to announce the launch of Halogen,” said Airy. “We’ve spent more than two years researching and defining the Halogen brand and found that this network fills a real void in the marketplace. There are more than 70 million 18 – 34 year olds in the United States, and more than 40 million identify themselves as being ‘socially conscious.’ We believe that we are tapping into an emerging community that will be responsive to this network, its programs, and the greater good that it promotes on a larger scale.”

Airy said that Halogen is advertising-supported and will launch with hundreds of hours of original and exclusive licensed content that spans drama, comedy, reality, documentary, and magazine show genres. “Responding to the requests of distributors, Halogen is launching in both Standard Definition and High Definition. By the first of 2010, Halogen will offer a companion VOD service.”

Airy commented that Halogen will meet the multiplatform viewing expectations of this demographic. “Our research showed that this demographic, more than any other, expects content to be available when they want it, and where they want it. Halogen’s linear presence will be supplemented by a robust online extension, www.halogentv.com that offers a variety of web content and social media interaction. Mobile extensions also are being planned for 2010.”

Halogen GM Becky Henderson added that the network redefines the inspirational genre for a new generation.  “Halogen doesn’t abandon the genre, just looks at it from a different perspective. This is a new kind of inspiration, expressed through social consciousness.

NEW MULTIPLATFORM NETWORK ‘HALOGEN’

“Our generation is very diverse but there is common ground that unites us.  We have a longing for justice, a desire for meaningful relationships; a drive to live a life of true significance and a delight for art and culture. These are the common values that provide the foundation for our content. It also is no accident that we have chosen to launch Halogen 24/7 on October 24, 2009. This is ‘national make a difference day’ and Halogen is committed both to make a difference as a network and empower our viewers to leave their mark on the world.”

Airy said that private meetings have taken place with distribution partners. “This excitement also has translated to our distribution partners, who are interested in what Halogen brings to the marketplace. It is clear that Halogen has tapped an underserved market. We look forward to building upon our community of viewers.”

At the time of its launch, Halogen will replace i-Lifetv. “i-Lifetv has been a pioneering, lifestyle network. But our research and feedback from consumers and our distribution partners demonstrated that it was time for a new vision. Halogen carries on the tradition begun by i-Lifetv, but with an exciting, new focus, and a new programming philosophy. Perhaps most beneficial, Halogen targets an underserved demographic group, meeting the needs not only of the market but also of our distribution partners.”

Halogen launched on Galaxy 15 and will be uplinked from MediaComm, the wholly owned production subsidiary of The Inspiration Networks in Charlotte, NC.  The MediaComm production center is one of the most technologically advanced in the Southeast U.S. with clients that have included Fox, Speed Channel, NASCAR, and Bank of America.
