TWC Business Class Adds Weapon To Service ArsenalDivision Debuts SIP Trunking As Alternative To TDM-Based Voice Services 1/16/2014 10:59 AM Eastern
Adding a new weapon to its voice services arsenal, Time Warner Cable Business Class on Thursday launched a SIP trunking offering that’s designed to offer customers a more cost-effective alternative to traditional TDM-based voice trunk services for businesses that use IP PBX gear.
As part of its plan to siphon more business away from the telcos and head up-market to serve larger customers, the MSO’s SIP Trunk offering delivers dedicated bandwidth for voice calls to ensure that they no longer compete for bandwidth that’s nailed up for regular data applications.
"Our SIP Trunks offering is an innovative, reliable, and scalable service designed to meet the needs of businesses with more sophisticated communications infrastructure, and complements the PRI Trunk services we already offer." said Greg King, SVP and chief product and strategy officer of TWC Businss Class, in a statement. "This further demonstrates TWCBC's commitment to providing larger businesses with a broad portfolio of telecommunications and IT solutions."
Features in new offering include unlimited local calling, caller ID, alternative routing (the re-routing of calls to a another destination when the primary location is not available), and a trunk administration management portal.
SIP Trunking comes into play as TWC Business Class pursues a growth strategy under Phil Meeks, the former Cox Communications exec who took the helm of the MSO’s commercial services unit last June. Under the new plan, the unit has set a goal of reaching $5 billion in annual revenues in the next four to five years, more than doubling the division’s current annual output.
