Cox Taps Cisco For Hotel Wi-Fi Expansion

Cox Business Hospitality to Deploy Wi-Fi Across Its Footprint 6/25/2013 8:50 AM Eastern

Cox Business will get an assist from  Cisco as the MSO's commercial services unit prepares to deploy Wi-Fi to its base of hotels and other hospitality properties this summer.

Cox Business, which has offered Wi-Fi in hotels in a portion of its footprint in cities such as Las Vegas for several years, said it will expand  that deployment to reach a hospitality customer base comprised of more than 2,000 hospitality customers and 250,000 guest rooms.

Cox will power those Wi-Fi access points off its fiber and hybrid fiber/coax network  and bake in network monitoring and guest troubleshooting and support components. The MSO said it is using Cisco’s Wi-Fi platform for the expanded rollout.

"We ensure ubiquitous coverage throughout the properties we work with, and guests can troubleshoot directly with us 24/7, so hotel staff can focus on running the hotel, not IT,” said Jeff Adelmann, VP of product development and management for Cox Business, in a statement.

Cox is also a member of CableWiFi, a roaming alliance that has deployed more than 150,000 hotspots so far that provides free access to residential cable modem subscribers. Cablevision Systems, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks are the other MSO roaming partners.
