YES Scores Top 2013 Telecast with A-Rod ReturnYankees RSN Averges 4.3 New York DMA Rating 8/06/2013 7:33 AM Eastern
Alex Rodriguez's controversial return to the New York Yankees lineup helped YES Network notch its top audience of the 2013 Major League Baseball season.
YES averaged a 4.34 household rating in the New York DMA with its coverage of the Yankees' 8-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Monday night. That translated into 393,000 average viewers. The regional sports network’s May 27 Yankees-Mets telecast was the previous season high, with a 4.16 average rating.
The August 5 telecast peaked with an 8.22 average TV household rating and 756,000 total viewers from 8:30 p.m.-8:45 pm.
YES’s one-hour pre-game show last evening (7-8 pm) scored a 1.45 DMA rating, and 131,000 viewers on average.
Rodriguez, who has been rehabilitating from hip surgery, played his first game of the season on the same day MLB issued a 211-game suspension for his alleged involvement with performance-enhancing drugs, the now defunct Biogenesis anti-aging clinic and obstruction of baseball's investigation thereunto. The suspension would go into effect on Aug. 8, but A-Rod is expected to appeal the ruling and remain on the field pending an arbitration hearing.
Twelve other ballplayers received 50-game suspensions yesterday.
