YES to Salute Yanks-Army Exhibition Game at West PointMarch 30 Telecast Features Academy Interviews, Special Reports 3/30/2013 6:07 AM Eastern
The New York Yankees will conclude their 2013 exhibition schedule by taking a trip up the Hudson River, visiting the Army Black Knights on March 30.
YES Network will go live from West Point at 2 p.m., marking the Yankees’ 22nd meeting with the Cadets since 1927, but the first since 1976. Following an extended pregame, first pitch is set for 2:26 p.m.
The pregame will showcase a pre-taped feature on Major Stephen Reich, one of Army’s greatest pitchers. A 1993 West Point graduate, Reich had a brief stint in the minors before being called to active duty. In 2005, he was killed when his helicopter was shot down over Afghanistan. The piece includes an interview conducted by Meredith Marakovits with Army baseball head coach Joe Sottolano, who was Reich's pitching coach at the service academy, which has honored him in a number of ways since his death.
The telecast will intersperse reports throughout, with reporter Jack Curry providing Army-themed interviews and updates. Michael Kay and Al Leiter will call the contest.
YES televised the Yankees-Virginia Tech exhibition baseball game in March 2008, after the shootings on the Blackburn campus in April 2007
