Xbox Cranks Up Jinni’s Video Discovery EngineMicrosoft Integrates Jinni’s Mood-Based System with its Gaming Platform 9/06/2013 6:00 AM Eastern
Jinni said it has notched a multi-year deal with Microsoft to serve as the video discovery engine for the Xbox platform.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Jinni said its video discovery platform, based on its proprietary “Entertainment Genome,” will supply recommendations for the entire Xbox video catalog of movies and TV shows.
Jinni declined to comment if the deal extends support for the widely deployed Xbox 360 as well as the Xbox One, a new console from Microsoft that is scheduled to start shipping on November 22 and sell for $499. The video library for the Xbox 360 currently offers a Bing-searchable library of more than 150,000 titles, according to Microsoft.
“Pairing Jinni’s Entertainment Genome with other key advances such as Conversational Understanding, makes finding something to watch on Xbox as fun as watching it,” Xbox General Manager Dave Alles said, in a statement.
“The inspiration for Jinni has always been putting the user at the center of the entertainment experience, by making finding great content intuitive and fun,” added Jinni co-founder and CEO Yosi Glick.
Jinni, founded in 2008, has licensing deal with 12 pay TV and over-the-top entertainment services, including Comcast, Vudu, Belgium’s Belgacom and Spain’s Prisa TV. Jinni came away with “best product idea” honors at the Cable Labs Winter Conference in February 2010.
