MTV will look to bring the successful horror movie franchise Scream to the small screen, greenlighting a pilot for the show – part of four new series the network announced prior to its upfront presentation in New York City Thursday.
MTV will team with Scream film distributor Dimension Films for the one-hour pilot, and is currently talking to various writers for the series which would debut in summer 2014, the network said.
Other new MTV shows in development include Generation Cryo, a one-hour docu drama that explores issues faced by kids conceived via anonymous sperm donors; Nurse Nation, a docu-series that follows nine 20-somethings assigned to work in a hospital over a 13-week period; and the The Hook Up, a dating show hosted by Guy Code star Andrew Schulz that takes the participants’ social media history into account.
The network also announced it will return 15 current series, including a third season run for reality series Snooki & JWOWW.
MTV sister network MTV2 will tap actor/comedian Nick Cannon to host a re-imagined improv comedy show Nick Cannon Presents Wild N Out, as well as Guy Court, a half-hour comedic courtroom series e in which familiar MTV2 faces will determine the guilt or innocence of a variety of cases in accordance with the network’s popular series Guy Code.
