Synacor Sets Up Shop in Boston

Opens ‘Engineering Hub’ Led by Former SeaChange Exec Steve Davi 5/30/2013 1:04 AM Eastern

Synacor, a maker of Web portals and TV Everywhere authentication services, has opened an “engineering hub” in Boston headed up by senior vice president of software engineering Steve Davi, the former SeaChange International exec who joined Synacor last November.

Davi’s currently the only Synacor employee based in the area, but the company is looking to hire 25 employees, including software engineers, software quality assurance engineers and project managers, for the new location within the next year.

Synacor intends to tap into the local pool of tech talent. Its new engineering facility, located on Technology Park Drive in Westford, places Synacor in a neighborhood shared by companies such as IBM, Juniper Networks, Sonus and Akamai.

“We’re growing right along with the demand for our products and services, and Synacor’s Boston-area office is key to that growth,” Davi said, in a statement.  “Raw brainpower, top universities, culture of innovation—Boston has it all—offering Synacor experienced engineers, well-educated talent and top-flight partners that can help fuel continued innovation for Synacor as well as new opportunities for Boston.”

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Synacor currently has 320 employees. It also runs offices in New York City and Toronto.

The company went public in February 2012. It broke even in the first quarter and posted revenues of $29.1 million, versus $30.7 million in the year-ago quarter. BendBroadband, Buckeye CableSystem, CenturyLink, CableOne, Charter Communications, Surewest and Verizon Communications are among Synacor's announced customers.
