Syfy Labs Does More with MakerBot

Syfy Labs and 3D printing pioneer MakerBot said they have expanded a partnership that includes exclusive models inspired by series from the network, including 12 Monkeys, The Magicians, Hunters, Killjoys and Dark Matter.

The new models, which include the time machine from 12 Monkeysand an alien skull from Hunters, and printable files will be offered on Syfy’s Thingiverse page, and are being introduced today at the Silicon Valley Comic-Con event.

Syfy said it will launch more show-inspired models on Thingiverse in the coming weeks, and that it’s the first major TV network to share content on the online community, which hosts more than 1 million 3D designs.

Syfy Labs and MakerBot kicked off their partnership by offering 3D models from Syfy series The Expanse, including spaceships “The Knight, “The Donnager,” and “The Canterbury.”

“In just two months, our partnership with MakerBot has found an enthusiastic and growing audience among the 3D printing community. It’s a natural evolution to extend this relationship to include more of our engaging series,” said Matthew Chiavelli, SVP, Syfy Digital, in a statement.

Since Syfy joined Thingiverse in January, the network has reached nearly 1,000 followers, according to Eric Mortenson, community manager, MakerBot Thingiverse.
