Sundance Channel has acquired pay TV rights to independent film packages from Zeitgeist Films Ltd., Palm Pictures and Strand Releasing, officials said Tuesday.

The films covered in the deals will make their U.S. television premieres on Sundance Channel. In addition, Sundance has relicensed two films from Zeitgeist, and acquired video-on-demand rights for some of the movies from Zeitgeist and Strand.

“Sundance Channel’s mission is to strategically explore the marketplace for a diverse selection of entertaining and fascinating films, including multipart documentaries and narrative television series,” said Laura Michalchyshyn, the network’s executive vice president of programming and marketing. “This significant group of acquisitions from Zeitgeist, Palm and Strand is in keeping with that goal.”

Some of the Zeitgeist films covered in the deal are Cowards Bend the Knee, Food, Little Otik, Caravaggio, Following, See the Sea and Summer Dress.

From Palm, Sundance Channel gets the TV series City of Men, about teenagers in a violent neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, as well as movies such as Millennium Mambo, The Nomi Song, Calvaire and Be Here to Love Me: A Film About Townes Van Zandt.

Sundance Channel’s acquisitions from Strand Releasing include Head-On, The Other Side of the Street, Who Killed Bambi? and Stryker.
