Sternberg Bolts Fox Cable Networks11/30/2009 9:56 AM Eastern
Longtime Fox National Cable Networks executive David Sternberg is leaving his post as the company's executive vice president and COO of Fox's Emerging Networks, which include Fuel TV, Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Espanol.
The three sports networks currently report to Rich Battista, President of Fox National Cable Networks, but Sternberg oversaw the operations of Fox Soccer and Fox Sports en Espanol. The action sports-based Fuel TV will continue to operate under the supervision of general manager CJ Olivares, while the company will announce the management structure for Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Español at a later date.
Sternberg ends a nearly 12-year career with the company. He first joined Fox Cable Networks as director of business development for Fox Sports International in 1998, and quickly assumed greater responsibility, becoming vice president and general manager of Fox Sports International in 2000. In 2002, he took over Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Español and added oversight of Fuel TV in 2003. Mr. Sternberg was elevated to his current position in 2004.
"David has been instrumental in the success of our emerging networks during his tenure at the company," said Battista in a statement. "He helped transform Fox Soccer Channel into the country's premier television home of domestic and international soccer; launched and grew FUEL TV into the premier action sports network; and made Fox Sports en Español the leading Spanish language cable sports network in the U.S. These networks are well positioned for future growth. We thank David for his contributions and wish him all the best."
Added Sternberg: "I am grateful for my time at Fox. It is a company filled with talented and passionate people, and I will always cherish the tremendous relationships that I developed along the way. I am especially proud of the growth experienced by Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports en Español, and FUEL TV, and I am looking forward to taking on new and equally exciting entrepreneurial challenges in the future."
