Starz Sticks with Documentaries, for Now

7/11/2006 4:59 AM Eastern

Pasadena, Calif. -- Production executives at Starz Entertainment Group said they anticipate branching out into more original genres in the near future, but for now, they are sticking with the documentary category.

The premium service highlighted two originals for critics here: Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film, interviewing filmmakers and fans of that controversial movie segment; and Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride: Hunter S. Thompson on Film.

For the latter, producers grabbed attendees at the late Gonzo journalist’s funeral in Colorado last year. The documentary is narrated by Nick Nolte, a friend of Thompson's, and it contains reminiscences from actors including Johnny Depp, Benecio del Toro and John Cusack.
