Showtime's Canelo Alvarez-Alfredo Angulo PPV Fight Draws More Than 350,000 Buys

Reply Of Fight To Air Saturday 3/14/2014 5:20 PM Eastern

Showtime's March 8 Canelo Alvarez-Alfredo Angulo pay-per-view boxing event generated more than 350,000 buys, the pay Tv service announced Friday.

The fight, which Alvarez won in a 10th round TKO, was the first for the former champion since his record-setting Sept. 15 PPV event against Floyd Mayweather. That fight drew more than 2.4 million buys and garnered a PPV record $150 million viewers.

A replay of the Alvarez-Angulo fight will air this Saturday (March 15) as part of the network's live doubleheader fight card.

“We are thrilled with the numbers from Saturday’s event,” said Stephen Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager of Showtime Sports in a statement. "March 8 was the first time Canelo Alvarez headlined his own pay per view, and he decisively proved that he was ready to carry a pay per view card.  These results are especially impressive in comparison to the pay per view performances of other boxing events over the past few months."

Showtime's next PPV event is May 3 when Mayweather steps into the ring to fight Marcos Maidana.
