SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013: RGB Rolls ‘Turnkey' Cloud DVR Platform

New CloudXtream DVR Developed With Partners Sequencia Technologies and LiveDefinition 10/22/2013 4:37 AM Eastern

ATLANTA -- RGB Networks is using this year’s show as the springboard for the CloudXtream DVR, a cloud-based digital video recorder for cable operators and other video service providers (VSP).

RGB is billing the CloudXtream DVR as a “turnkey” product that enables operators to deploy an end-to-end nDVR solution in their own datacenter, hosted private cloud or public cloud.  RGB developed the product in tandem with Sequencia Technologies, a maker of cloud automation systems, and will be demonstrating it at this week’s show in collaboration with LiveDefinition, a cloud-based publishing and delivery company that relies on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and is based in Tel Aviv, Israel.

RBG said its cloud DVR platform uses the vendor’s Just-In-Time-Packaging (JITP) technology, which packages programs into the appropriate streaming protocol when requested by the subscriber. This approach, the company added, enables operators to sidestep the onerous operational challenge of supporting up to a dozen separate profiles required for smartphones, tablets, PCs, smart TVs and gaming consoles.

“Our CloudXtream DVR solution enables cable operators and other VSPs to marry our proven software-based transcoding and packaging solutions with the advantages of Cloud architectures to quickly and cost-effectively deploy nDVR services that can easily scale to meet subscriber demand,” said Simone Sassoli, VP of marketing and business development at RGB Networks, in a statement.

“Sequencia is actively providing architecture and engineering services to major video service providers who are transitioning to virtualized infrastructure for service delivery,” added James Kelso, Sequencia’s VP of products and product marketing, and an exec late of Cox Communications and SeaChange International.
