English-language Latino network Sí TV said Tuesday that it will debut two new original shows.
The network also said it has acquired the second season of critically acclaimed series American Family -- Journey of Dreams, which it called the first drama series featuring a Latino cast ever to air on broadcast television. Sí TV had already acquired the first season of American Family.
“We have been able to make great strides since our launch last February,” Sí TV cofounder and chairman Jeff Valdez said in a prepared statement. “We look forward to participating in [the Television Critics Association tour] for the first time and introducing the creative minds and talent behind our programming to the media.“
Sí TV’s two new series are:
• Circumcised Cinema, which features award-winning film producer Moctesuma Esparza and his young team of Latino writers and filmmakers taking campy Mexican movies and editing them into 30-minute “mini-movies” with totally new, scripted English audio tracks. It is set to debut Feb. 25.
• Not So Foreign Filmmakers Showcase, hosted by Joe Hernández-Kolski, is dedicated to independent films and shorts by, about and/or featuring Latinos, African Americans and Asians, and it will premiere March 20.
