Q Queues Up Soft Launch

5/26/2004 8:16 AM Eastern

Gay- and lesbian-themed Q Television Network announced a June 1 soft launch and a July 1 actual launch Wednesday.

Beginning June 1, the network will be available on Intelsat America's 7, 129 degrees west, channel 1.

“It has taken more than seven years and millions of dollars to arrive at this day," president and chairman Frank Olsen said in a prepared statement. "Clearly, the time to launch this network is now, and I am confident that the gay and lesbian community will embrace the unique perspective we offer as a family channel.”

The network debuted some of its original programming at the National Show earlier this month and in a five-hour sample broadcast May 15, which was available to more than 250,000 New Orleans-area Cox Communications Inc. homes and some 1.6 million Comcast Corp. western Washington households.

Original documentary I Will, I Do, We Did, which explores gay and lesbian marriage in America, was part of that preview, along with independent films such as An Intimate Friendship and Straightman and Bette Midler's Divine Madness concert.

Parent company Triangle Multimedia Ltd. Inc. changed the network’s name from Triangle Television Network last month.
