Murdoch’s Bid for New Digs: $44M12/17/2004 7:26 AM Eastern
News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch reportedly has his eye on a three-story penthouse on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
AP reported that Murdoch offered $44 million for the former home of Laurance S. Rockefeller, which would mark the highest price ever paid for a Manhattan apartment if the deal goes through.
The current Manhattan record is $42.25 million, paid last year for a pair of adjoining condominium units at the Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle, according to AP.
The 20-room apartment spans the 14th, 15th and 16th floors of the building, and it has 8,000 square feet of floor space and terraces on each floor, AP reported. The monthly maintenance fee is $21,469.07.
