MTV Steps To The Plate With New MLB PartnershipWorld Series MVP David Ortiz To Produce MTV2 Series As Part of Multi-Platform Deal 11/11/2013 9:27 AM Eastern
MTV will team with 2013 World Series MVP David Ortiz to produce a weekly men’s-targeted lifestyles series as part of a multi-year, cross-platform partnership with Major League Baseball.
The as yet titled 30-episode series, produced by Boston Red Sox's Ortiz and Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Andrew McCutchen, will debut on MTV2 in April and will target men with smart, relevant, lifestyles-themed content, according to MTV officials. The series will also showcase MLB athletes off the field through a series of player interviews and features, as well as celebrity appearances. The series will be produced in New York City from inside the MLB Fan Cave studios.
Future content from the new partnership to be announced at a later date will feature live on-air and online programming across MTV’s channels and platforms – MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits and MTV Jams. MTV will look to integrate MLB players into existing shows and events as well as develop other specials and weekend programming, said network officials.
"As sports and pop culture increasingly collide, we're thrilled to partner with MLB to cover baseball through a uniquely MTV lens," said Stephen Friedman, President of MTV in a statement. “We will blur the lines between lifestyle and sports entertainment, spotlighting MLB’s most exciting players in a way fans have never seen before.”
Added Tim Brosnan, executive vice president of business for MLB: "The MLB Fan Cave has been an enormous success in showcasing the personalities of our star players to young fans and intersecting baseball with pop culture. Being able to partner with MTV on a weekly TV series will give us an opportunity to bring that concept to an even broader audience.”
