Media General, Dish Settle Retrans Dispute

Stations in 17 Markets Restored To Subscribers 11/16/2013 4:42 PM Eastern

After more than a month, Dish Network and Media General said jointly Saturday that they reached a retransmission-consent agreement, restoring about 18 stations in 17 markets to Dish customers. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Media General stations went dark to Dish customers on Oct. 1. The two have had a contentious negotiation period, with Dish filing a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission alleging that Media General was not negotiating in good faith. Media General responded to that FCC complaint on Friday, with its own allegations.

Apparently the two parties buried the hatchet and found a way to compromise. In a brief statement, both sides said that stations in Augusta, Ga.; Birmingham, Ala.; Charleston, S.C.; Columbus, Ga.; Columbus, Ohio; Greenville, N.C.; Greenville/Spartanburg, S.C.; Hattiesburg, Miss.; Jackson, Miss.; Mobile, Ala./Pensacola, Fla.; Florence/Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Providence, R.I.; Raleigh/Durham, N.C.; Roanoke/Lynchburg, Va.; Savannah, Ga.; Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla. and Tri-Cities, Tenn./Va., would be available to Dish customers on Nov. 16.
