Lifetime Offers Bilingual Sneak Peek at 'Devious Maids'

To help support the June 23 premiere of Devious Maids, Lifetime said it will make the drama series’ pilot available in English and Spanish across several platforms, including website MyLifetime.com and the Lifetime Mobile video app.

The A+E Networks-owned channel’s affiliates have made the Devious Maids pilot available on their video-on-demand platforms, websites and apps since June 9, the network said.

Once the series gets underway, the network said, it will make each episode of Devious Maids available in both English and Spanish across these platforms one day after its Sunday airing (at 10 p.m. ET/PT).

“We are thrilled to work with our distribution partners on making Devious Maids available in both English and Spanish to maximize the show’s crossover appeal among the broadest range of their customers,” Lifetime executive VP and GM Rob Sharenow said in a statement.

Executive-produced by Marc Cherry and Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), Devious Maids has faced some criticism by U.S. Hispanic bloggers and commentators, who see it as Hollywood’s latest effort to stereotype Latinas (in this case, as maids). It stars Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), Dania Ramirez (Entourage), Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace), Edy Ganem (Livin’ Loud) and Judy Reyes (Scrubs). It tells the story of five maids working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Devious Maids, inspired by the Mexican telenovela Ellas son la alegría del hogar, is produced by ABC Studios.
