'The Kelly Files' Climbs on Second NightFNC's New Entry Tops CNN, MSNBC in 9 P.M. Hour with Viewers, Demo 10/09/2013 5:17 PM Eastern
Megyn Kelly scored big gains with the second night of her new Fox News Channel primetime show.
On Oct. 8, The Kelly File saw its audience grow 38% to 2.8 million from its Monday night debut, according to Nielsen data. That total included a 116% jump to 623,000 adults 25 to 54, the best performance in cable news on Tuesday night, including the perennial sector leader, The O’Reilly Factor.
Moreover, The Kelly File outscored the combined totals of CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight (590,858 viewers, 168,728 adults 25 to 54) and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow (1.08 million, 290,767) in terms of audience and with the so-called news demo.
From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Fox News averaged 2.43 million viewers and 508,949 demo watchers, as each of its shows --On The Record with Greta van Susteren, Factor, Kelly and Hannity -- won its hour in those measures. MSNBC averaged 958,420 viewers and 264,277 adults 25 to 54, while CNN garnered 577,591 viewers and 173,321 of the preferred news demo.
