2/17/2004 6:14 AM Eastern

Former Cable News Network CEO Rick Kaplan returned to the cable-news arena Tuesday, agreeing to become president of MSNBC.

Kaplan most recently had been with ABC News, focusing on its coverage of the war in Iraq.

He replaces Erik Sorenson, MSNBC’s president and general manager since 1998. Sorenson will work on special projects for NBC News.
