Steve Case Bankrolls Wisdom Media Buy

Washington — America Online Inc. co-founder Steve Case’s new company, Revolution, has bought Wisdom Media and its TV and radio networks. Daniels & Associates advised Wisdom. As reported, former Oxygen Media executive C.J. Kettler (pictured) is the new CEO and the chairman is Lee de Boer. The network will be rebranded. Case also owns Miraval Life in Balance resorts.

Emmy Telecast To Keep Telepic Awards On Air

Los Angeles — This year’s Emmy Awards broadcast may be quicker, but it won’t come at the expense of televised cable-heavy categories.

Looking to halt viewer erosion, executives at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences have decided to tighten up the broadcast, scheduled this year for Sept. 18, by requiring nominees in all writing and directing and some other categories, such as made-for-television movie and miniseries, to pre-tape their acceptance speeches.

ATAS had mulled the possibility of moving the movie and miniseries to the non-televised creative awards ceremony, which would have been a blow to cable networks, which often dominate those categories. But in the face of written opposition from the directors’ and writers’ unions, the parties agreed to the taping scenario.

INHD Brings Poker To the HDTV Table

New York — The poker craze is going high-definition.

INHD will become the first outlet to present tournament poker action in HD, when it airs the Ultimate Poker Challenge series, beginning today at 9 p.m. (EDT).

In the weekly series, syndicated to many broadcast stations around the country, players compete for a $1 million-plus grand prize in Las Vegas. Episodes have already been shot in the enhanced format and will now run on INHD.
