HBO Puts Six Back on Sundays

Home Box Office is moving Six Feet Under, now in its fifth and final season, back to its old time slot on Sunday nights, officials said Monday.

The premium service is returning the hour-long drama to Sundays at 9 p.m., from its relatively new slot on Mondays, starting July 10. At that time, Entourage will follow it on the schedule at 10 p.m., with Comeback at 10:30 p.m., according to an HBO spokesman.

HBO kicked off the new season of Six Feet Under on its new night, Mondays at 9 p.m., June 6. The network is trying to build a second night of original series on Monday in addition to Sunday, but HBO found that its audience wasn’t up to speed about Six Feet Under’s move.

Since its debut, Six Feet Under had been part of HBO’s Sunday-night lineup of original series.

“Although Six Feet Under tripled the time period on Monday nights, we found through our research that only 1% of our subscribers were aware of the Monday-night premiere,” the HBO spokesman said. So the network decided to return the show to the night and time period where viewers are accustomed to finding it -- Sundays at 9 p.m. -- he added.

In addition, at this point, HBO doesn’t have enough programming inventory to sustain a second night of original shows, according to the spokesman.
