E!, Newton Search for Entertainer

10/14/2004 7:01 AM Eastern

E! Entertainment Television and Wayne Newton, “Mr. Las Vegas,” are looking for the next Las Vegas superstar.

In January, the network will debut 10-part reality drama The Entertainer, in which 10 performers -- including male and female vocalists, illusionists, comedians and specialty act performers -- will compete for the chance to become a featured performer in Newton's award-winning Las Vegas show.

Newton, a team of judges and a celebrity guest judge will eliminate one contestant each week.

"Las Vegas has become the entertainment capital of the world, and Wayne Newton deserves much of the credit for this reputation," E! Networks CEO Ted Harbert said in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to join one of the world's most loved entertainers as he searches for the headliner of the future.”

Newton added, “I am so excited about working on and seeing this project through to fruition with E!. I believe this show will fill a much-needed void in the training ground of onstage performers that no longer exists.”
