CSTV Eyes Hockey Power Play

9/27/2004 10:26 AM Eastern

With no end to the lockout that has iced the start of the National Hockey League season, College Sports Television will drop the puck on its expanded coverage of the ice sport next week.

Facing off with 2004 tournament participants North Dakota and Maine Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. (EST), CSTV Friday Night Hockey will air contests featuring 13 of the 16 schools that made the NCAA men’s championship last season, including champion Denver.

All six Division I men’s hockey conferences will be showcased, with the number of overall contests -- including some women’s games -- increasing to 33 from 30.

Eric Frede and Steve Schlanger will rotate calling the action on CSTV Friday Night Hockey, while Billy Jaffe will provide analysis of the men’s games and Ellen Weinberg will handle the women’s telecasts.

The network said the contests will be supported by a multimedia “TGI Hockey” campaign, encompassing on-air spots; online banners on CSTV’s Web site (www.collegesports.com/online) and hockey Web sites; flyers and T-shirts distributed at games; and through affiliate promotions.
