CSN Philadelphia Expands Programming Alliance with WCAU

Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and NBCU-owned WCAU Philadelphia will expand on their extant programming alliance, beginning in the new year.

Starting in January, CSN Philadelphia’s award-winning sports, news and information will power NBC10’s more than 700 annual sports reports, featured across newscasts every day, replete with the RSN’s branding.

The collaboration will align the RSN’s resources that combine to produce over 1,600 hours of sports news and analysis annually, with NBC10’s local newsgathering, weather and traffic expertise. As part of the move, WCAU sports anchor John Clark shifts to CSN Philadelphia.

Moreover, the operation will  incorporate assets from the overall NBC Sports Group, which presents some of TV's top properties, including Sunday Night Football and the upcoming 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, beginning Feb. 6.

Speaking of the Games, NBC10’s Vai Sikahema will travel to Russia and provide coverage for both the station and CSN Philadelphia.

CSN Philadelphia’s journalists will contribute to NBC10 newscasts by providing inside access to coaches, players and movers and shakers in Philadelphia and around the country. Meanwhile, NBC10 correspondents will continue to contribute to Comcast SportsNet’s sports coverage on Philly Sports Talk, SportsNite, Full Contact and other programs.

For their part, NBC10 meteorologists Sheena Parveen and Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz will continue to provide forecasts for Comcast SportsNet’s on-air and online daily sports coverage, involving how weather could impact the action of the field.

NBC10’s High School Blitz program, now wrapping up its rookie season, will continue next fall as a joint effort between the station and the RSN. The show currently airs on NBC10, Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network.

"Combining Philadelphia's deepest local sports coverage with NBC10's extensive local news, weather and national sports allows us to connect more broadly with Philadelphia fans, who have an insatiable appetite for news and insights on their hometown teams," said Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia president Brian Monihan.

Noted WCAU president and general manager Eric Lerner: "NBC10 is proud to be working with Comcast SportsNet. We're committed to finding creative ways to work with CSN and feel strongly that this unique collaboration will provide passionate Philadelphia sports fans with the best sports coverage in the market."
