Copa Nissan Sudamericana Back to Fox Sports en Español

8/16/2006 8:41 AM Eastern

The Copa Nissan Sudamericana will return to Fox Sports en Español’s lineup this fall.

Live coverage will air starting Aug. 22 featuring 31 soccer teams from CONMEBOL (Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol) member countries and three from CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football), including eight teams from Brazil; seven from Argentina; two apiece from Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela; and one from Costa Rica.

“We anticipate that the addition of Mexico’s Toluca and Pachuca to the field will score big among our viewers and further bolster the popularity of the Copa Nissan Sudamericana, particularly among Mexican soccer fans, who make up the majority of the U.S. Spanish-language television-viewing audience,” Fox Sports en Español executive vice president and general manager David Sternberg said in a prepared statement.

“We’re excited to be the only network in the nation to offer live action from this prestigious tournament,” he added.
